Interactive Exhibits and Planetarium - Experience Science Through Play

About this spot

Asahikawa's science museum features interactive exhibits themed around "The North," "Earth," and "Space." The permanent exhibits showcase hands-on learning devices—experience near-weightlessness with a space gyroscope, or feel the frigid world unique to northern regions in the low-temperature experience room. Most exhibits are intuitive to enjoy: pressing buttons, turning handles, and learning becomes playtime. Children of all ages stay engaged as they move through. The 18-meter dome planetarium features seasonal star commentary and children's programs, perfect for cooling off after walking at the zoo and gardens. It's also a reliable backup if weather turns bad.

Tips

About 20 minutes by car from Ueno Farm, located on the way back to Asahikawa Station area with free parking. Permanent exhibits cost 400 yen for adults, free for middle school students and under; planetarium is separately ticketed so check showtimes first. Closed Mondays (or the following day if Monday is a holiday). The museum allows re-entry, so you can visit crowded exhibits at different times for a more relaxed experience.

Best time to visit

Allow about 1 hour. Late afternoon near closing is quieter, and popular interactive exhibits have shorter or no wait times.
