Dolphins Leaping Against Hakata Bay and the Great Tanks of Kyushu's Seas

About this spot

An aquarium themed on "Kyushu's Sea," introducing the rich marine life nurtured by the Tsushima Current. In the large tank recreating the rough waves of the Genkai Sea, massive schools of sardines create shimmering silver spirals, and sharks and rays glide majestically—a stunning sight. The main attraction is the open-air show pool with Hakata Bay as its natural backdrop. The moment dolphins leap high toward the blue sea and sky is exhilarating enough to draw gasps from the audience. Exhibits that delve deeply into the region's waters, such as deep-sea creatures of Kyushu, are equally impressive, and the in-house restaurant even offers seating facing the pool where dolphins swim. This aquarium, taking full advantage of its Umino-Nakamichi location, allows you to become one with the sea.

Tips

Dolphin show seats fill quickly, so arrive at the viewing area 15 minutes before the show starts. Front-row seats may get splashed, so bring a towel for peace of mind. Check the show time at entry and plan your route through the facility accordingly. Make the most of your morning before afternoon plans.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 2 hours 30 minutes. It's most efficient to start right after opening and secure the morning dolphin show.
