Kamakura's iconic symbol, intimately connected with Minamoto Yoritomo. From Kenchoji (建長寺), you can walk via the Kojukuroji slope to reach it. Climb the grand stone steps to the vermilion-painted main shrine and pay your respects. Turn around at the ceremonial gate and enjoy a sweeping view: the Wakamiya Oji approach stretches in a straight line toward the sea in a refreshing vista. There are many sights to explore, including the dance hall and Gempei Pond, and the grounds are free to visit.

The grand stone steps number 61. The spot before the ceremonial gate is a classic place for commemorative photos. The grounds feature many gravel paths, so comfortable shoes are ideal. After your visit, the nearby Komachi shopping street is worth exploring.
