Family Photos and Worship at the Peace Torii Gate Standing in the Lake
About this spot
The guardian shrine of Hakone said to have been founded in the Nara period. The approach lined with giant cedar trees feels refreshing just to walk through, and is known for blessings of good fortune and family well-being. The 'Peace Torii Gate' standing on the surface of Lake Ashi is one of Hakone's premier photo spots. At the adjacent Kuzu Dragon Shrine shrine, you can also collect dragon sacred water, offering another way to enjoy the experience with children.
Tips
Photography of the Peace Torii Gate draws long lines, so allow extra time. The stone steps to the main hall mean a baby carrier or harness is more practical than a stroller.
Best time to visit
Allow 45 minutes; after 3 p.m., the line at the torii gate is shorter
